Sympli FAQs
WHAT'S IN OUR PRODUCTS?
Do you use only locally sourced (Nigerian) ingredients?
We use 100% locally sourced Nigerian Yam, Plantain and Sweet potatoes in our range.
How can we be sure that your Yam, Plantain and Sweet potato is actually from Nigeria?
All our Yam, Plantain and Sweet Potato is procured directly from local farmers and suppliers across various states in Nigeria depending on the type of produce. We keep it local to help create employment, to ensure authenticity and to support the economy.
How do you ensure world class standards?
Absolutely! You can rest assured that all our products are grown, picked, and packed in Nigeria. The Sympli processing facility is a world class facility and is British Retail Consortium (BRC) certified (with Grade ‘A’ standard since 2018).
Our facility is HACCP certified by Intertek Global, approved by NAFDAC and The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON).
Every batch undergoes organoleptic and microbial analysis to ensure safety and top quality for human consumption. At Sympli, providing you the best quality is our promise!
Are your products certified?
Sympli is the first food factory to be British Retail Consortium (BRC) approved in Nigeria, a certificate we have maintained for over 5 years with Grade A standing. We are also approved by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and control (NAFDAC), The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and HACCP certified by Intertek Global. Further to this we are MANCAP, cGMP and locally audited and approved by several international Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs).
But what do these actually mean for you?
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point): This certification is here to control any potential hazards and ensure the Food Safety and Quality for consumers.
- British Retail Consortium Issue-*8, Grade-A: This certification is here to ensure Food Safety, Quality and Legality in all realms of the operation.
- cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices): These are guidelines recommended by legal agencies to control the manufacturing process and packaging to maintain quality for the final consumer.

Are Yams good for you?
According to research done by IITA, Yams are nutrient-dense and are a great source of fibre, nutrients, and minerals. Yams are also high in potassium and manganese, which are important for supporting bone health, growth, metabolism as well as heart function. Yams also provide copper and antioxidants which are known to assist with red blood cell production, iron absorption and improved immune systems. In this study Yams are linked to a variety of health benefits that researchers feel should be investigated further for medical and health purposes.
Are Sweet Potatoes good for you?
According to research by the USDA Sweet potatoes are lower in calories and carbohydrates than your average potato. Sweet potatoes are also higher in vitamin A than potatoes, with one sweet potato able to provide more than your daily vitamin A needs. Sweet potatoes are also rich in other nutrients such as vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium and magnesium.
Are Plantains good for you?
Research by the IITA shows that plantains are good source of magnesium, potassium (they have even more than potassium than bananas!), vitamin A, and vitamin K. Plantains also provide fiber along with some vitamin C and B vitamins, such as thiamin and riboflavin.
Is there a lot of salt in your products?
Yam, Plantain and Sweet Potato are naturally low in salt. We do not use salt as an ingredient, preferring to leave it to our customers to add their own salt, if desired.
What about SAPP?
Sodium acid pyrophosphate (SAPP), or disodium pyrophosphate, is found in baking soda and is extensively used in the food industry in potato products, tuna, and meat to prevent darkening.
We use a tiny amount (less than 1%) as a processing aid to prevent the surface of our products from changing colour. Without it our products would turn brown, just as a potato, avocado, or apple does once cut and left in the open.
Do you use any sugar?
There are NO added sugars, NO added colours and NO added fragrances. All our products are made from fresh vegetables and vegetable oil, delivering you convenient and delicious products where you can enjoy their original taste!
Do you use any nuts, shellfish, dairy, gluten, or meat in your factory?
Our factory does not utilize any nuts, shellfish, dairy, gluten, or meat in its processing or within the factory. As yam, plantain and sweet potato are naturally gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan, and since we do not produce any other products in our factory, we decided NOT to pursue certification to this effect, but will do so later if the need arises.
How are your products made?
Our product process is fairly simple; we take the vegetables (yam, plantain or sweet potato), we wash them, peel them, cut them and then par-fry in vegetable oil. After this we rapidly freeze them at an exceedingly low temperature. This flash freezing process locks in vitamins, minerals and prevents decay so you can enjoy the same delicious taste without compromising on nutrition.
Do you use quality ingredients?
All our produce goes through rigorous quality checks before arriving on your plate. Before we place our order, we do a pre-purchase sample check to ensure the crop meets our strict standards. Upon receipt we conduct organoleptic analysis to ensure ingredient quality before we cut & cook our fruits & vegetables to produce our delicious snack. Finally after production they go through microbial checks to make sure you and your family get the absolute best quality when you buy Sympli.
Do you add sugar to your products to make them taste sweeter?
We do not add any sugar! All our products are made to offer you the traditional fresh taste, suitable for the whole family.
